You can check your own thyroid by standing in front of a mirror. Look at the area of your neck where the collarbone comes together just below the Adam’s apple. Shine a light on the area to throw a shadow over it. Tilt your head back, and watch this area for any shadows that appear as you swallow. You should look for any enlargement of the area, which may signal the presence of a thyroid nodule. As with any growth, there may be a chance of a malignancy, so schedule an appointment with your physician.
